About Karate

What is Karate?

In simple terms; Karate is a Japanese martial art and self-defence system in which a person

trains to be able to defend themselves against an attacker using a combination of evasive body

movements, blocks and counters involving kicks, punches and other strikes.

But, Karate is so much more than just that

We often hear stories of parents signing children up to karate classes

as a result of being bullied or picked on at school.

However, it is our belief that Karate should not be thought of as a 'quick fix' solution just for dealing

with bullying or taught to someone who just wants to 'learn how to fight'

Instead, Karate should be thought of more like a long term, life-time investment.

It is as much about learning self-discipline, respect, commitment and determination,

as it is about kicking and punching.

Our aim is to offer a programme which boosts confidence, fitness, self-esteem and promotes personal development.

These important life skills are not just limited to the dojo, but can be applied to all aspects of life.

Everyone has a different reason for starting Karate, some simply want to meet and make new friends, some want to find a way to shake off their shyness, others want to push themselves out of their comfort zone to find out what they're really capable of, we will help you reach your goals and unlock your inner strength.

People choose to study karate for a number of reasons:

Fitness – Regular training will improve your fitness & flexibility
